SPECIAL EVENT – Sunday 30th November 2008 at
Some of the
Festival’s most outstanding music competitors will be invited to perform before
an adjudicating panel. All performers will receive a cash
award, a certificate and a medal. Admission is free and the public are warmly
invited to attend:

MUSICIAN OF THE YEAR
Maximum of 12
minutes performance. The winner will receive a special trophy, the Tom and Pat
Sowerby Award and a cash prize of £100. The Maxine Kwok and Daniel Bates Cup
will be awarded to the most promising string or woodwind player. The Diamond
Jubilee Trophy will be awarded to the most promising performer aged 14 and
under. The Patrick Hilderley Memorial Trophy be awarded to the most promising
wind player aged 14 and under.
Ensemble Award –

The most promising ensemble in eligible
classes will be awarded a Cash Prize of £40 plus free tickets to an SGCO
concert. Eligible classes are: Ensembles E4 – E10, Guitar G12 – G16, Harp H20,
Recorders R20 – R26, Strings ST33 – ST36. The music sub-committee will select
the winning ensemble, in consultation with the section adjudicators.

1. Competitors who wish to use the Official Accompanist must send copies of their music, marked with name and class number, to the appropriate accompanist at the time of entry (unfolded and with correct postage). The official accompanist will not be permitted to play for competitors who abuse this rule. The accompanist fee must be paid with the entry. N.B. No rehearsal time is available at the time of the competitions.
2. Copies of all own choice music must be provided for the adjudicator on the day. Competitors are reminded of the laws regarding the photocopying of music – see Festival Rules no. 5.
3. No recorded accompaniment, backing tracks or karaoke will be allowed
WORKSHOPS - It is hoped that it will be possible to hold short workshops during some sessions of the competition. These will depend on the number of entries and time available.
