DRUSILLA DUFFILL

 

 

 

Drusilla Duffill trained at the London College of Dance and Drama gaining the Teaching Diploma (Dist.) and is now Artistic Director of the Drusilla Duffill Theatre School of which her daughter, Vikki Harris is Principal. The school, established in 1957, recently celebrated a 50th Anniversary with a Gala performance. Drusilla is an examiner for the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing (Imperial Classical Ballet), an adjudicator for the All England Dance Competition and for the British and International Federation of Festivals. She has adjudicated the Grandison Clarke, National Dance Competition and the Classical Greek Dance Festival. Many of her students progress to professional training and subsequently careers on the stage, TV and in teaching. Drusilla is keen to help young talent develop and is looking forward to meeting the dancers and teachers at the Beckenham Festival.

 

 

 

The Festival has been nominated to act as a qualifying heat for the All-England Dance Competition.

STAGE DANCING SECTION ADDITIONAL RULES

1.       The adjudicator's decision is final. No correspondence can be entered into at any time. The adjudicator reserves the right not to award any place when, in her opinion, the standard of dance is insufficiently high.

2.       The committee may combine sections or classes when entries are small, divide a class when entries are large, and have the power to make any other regulations, or interpret or qualify any of these rules as occasion may arise.

3.       Competitors should provide their own music.

4.       Cassette tape recorders with speakers are provided by the Festival for competitors' use. Only this equipment may be used. It will be operated by a Festival representative. Only cassettes may be used and only one recording per tape is allowed. All recordings must be ready to play.

5.       Acrobatic work is prohibited but gymnastic dance is permitted, provided that it is combined with a modern dance technique.

6.       Entries will only be accepted on an official entry form. Lists are acceptable from teachers. Absolutely no late entries will be accepted.

7.       Time limits must be strictly observed.

8.       Only helpers absolutely essential to a performance will be allowed backstage.

9.       Competitors must dance in order as in the programme and be backstage at the commencement and during the progress of their class.

10.     The use of videos or other recording devices is not permitted.

11.     No dangerous or breakable props will be permitted on stage.

12.     Re-dancing is not allowed over the age of 11 years except for technical reasons as determined by the stage steward.

13.     A competitor may enter only once in each solo class, but may enter more than once with a different partner in duets, trios and quartets.

 

N.B.    THE CLOSING DATE FOR ENTRIES IS 1ST AUGUST.

           

            Entries may be sent at any time from publication of the syllabus.

 

 

COPYRIGHT RULES

 

All performances using music from shows in current production are subject to copyright law.

Songs from shows in current production may be sung as a concert item, i.e. with no costume or movement, without need for copyright permission.

Where movement or costume are included in a performance copyright permission is required and the Festival committee accepts these entries on the basis that the appropriate copyright permission has been sought.

Performers or teachers with queries on how to obtain copyright permission for performance items should contact Festivals House on 0906 302 1302 before making their entries. (Calls cost maximum of 50p per minute.)

The Evans Cup

will be awarded to the solo competitor gaining the highest mark in Ballet under 11 years.

The Shepherd Cup

 will be awarded to the solo competitor gaining the highest mark in Ballet 11 years and over.

The Junior Character Cup

will be awarded to the solo competitor gaining the highest mark in Character under 11 years.

The Doris Dorbon Cup

will be awarded to the solo competitor gaining the highest mark in Senior Character 11 years and over.

The Greek and Natural Movement Shield

presented by Mrs. P. Snowdon, will be awarded to the solo competitor gaining the highest mark in any Greek and Natural Movement class.

The Moss Cup

will be awarded to the solo competitor gaining the highest mark in National under 11 years.

The National Shield

will be awarded to the solo competitor gaining the highest mark in National 11 years and over.

The Cator Cup

will be awarded to the solo competitor gaining the highest mark in Modern Dance under 1l years.

The Vandelie Trophy

presented by Derek Chitty, will be awarded to the solo competitor gaining the highest mark for Modern Dance 11 years and over.

The Lanagan Shield

will be awarded for the highest mark in Lyrical Modern Dance.

The Sara Phillips Cup

will be awarded to the competitor gaining the highest mark in Tap under 11 years.

The Dorothy Locke Cup

will be awarded to the solo competitor gaining the highest mark in Tap 11 years and over.

The Sally Radford Award

will be awarded to the solo competitor gaining the highest mark in Song and Dance under 1l years.

The Tillyard Salver

will be awarded to the solo competitor gaining the highest mark in Song and Dance 11 years and over.

The Janice Fullman Millennium Award

will be awarded to the competitor gaining the highest aggregate marks in the Ballet and Modern solo classes under 11 years.

The Hilton Award

will be awarded to the competitor gaining the highest aggregate marks in the Ballet and Modern solo classes 11 years and over.

The Roshe Cup will be awarded to the competitor gaining the highest aggregate marks in the Ballet and Character Solo Classes for under 11 years.

The Challenge Cup

presented by Miss Joyce Booth, will be awarded to the competitor gaining the highest aggregate marks in the Ballet and Character solo classes for 11 years and over.

The Vincent Cup

will be awarded for the highest mark in Improvisation under 13 years.

The Townshend Improvisation Award

will be awarded for the highest mark for Improvisation 13 years and over.

The Barbara Stow Memorial Cup

will be awarded to the solo competitor gaining the highest mark in any Choreographic class.

The Cannell Cup for Choreography

will be awarded for the highest mark in any non-solo Choreographic class.

The Hilton Cup

will be awarded to the Junior Duet gaining the highest mark.

The Betty Cook Memorial Cup

will be awarded to the Senior Duet gaining the highest mark.

The Lissa and Claire Award

will be awarded for the highest mark in Senior Classical Duet.

The Ron Edgington Cup

will be awarded to the Junior Trio gaining the highest mark.

The Nicola Hilton Plaque

will be awarded to the Senior Trio gaining the highest mark in any Trio class.

The Jack Stevens Memorial Shield

will be awarded to the Quartet gaining the highest mark.

The Beckenham Boys' Trophy

presented by Robert Harrold, will be awarded for the highest mark in any solo class.

The Rose Bowl

presented by A.H. Corbett Esq., will be awarded to the solo competitor gaining the highest mark in any class.

The Diamond Jubilee Trophy

will be awarded to the most entertaining entry of the Festival. The adjudicator will decide the winner.

The Erica Jeans Cup

will be awarded for Musicality. The adjudicator will decide the winner.

The Ann Packham Cup

will be awarded for Endeavour under 11 years. The adjudicator will decide the winner.

The Sue Latham Trophy

will be awarded for Endeavour 11 years and over. The adjudicator will decide the winner.

The Councillor Peter Ayres Cup

will be awarded to the most promising dancer of the Festival. The adjudicator will decide the winner.

A special Nationwide Building Society Award

of £100 will be given to a top performer. The adjudicator will decide the recipient.

The John Dugon Memorial Trophy

will be awarded to the Song and Dance Group gaining the highest mark.

The Gurney-Ward Cup

will be awarded to the Modern Stage or Tap Group gaining the highest mark.

The Stage Door Cup

will be awarded to the Character or National Group gaining the highest mark.

The Miniature Cup

presented by the 1952 Dancing Sub-Committee, will be awarded to the Ballet Group gaining the highest mark.

The Group Work Award

will be awarded to the School/Group who, in the opinion of the adjudicator, gives the most entertaining and best presentation in the Dancing Group Work classes – a cash prize of £50.

The Beckenham Cup

presented by Stage Door, will be awarded to the teacher whose entry gains the highest mark of the Dancing Festival.

The Beckenham Shield

presented by Chorus Line Dancewear, will be awarded to the Dancing School whose pupils gain the highest placed points.

The Maureen Bathurst Cup

will be awarded for the Most Effective Costume.
